While I encourage people to find support on the road to mental fitness, the good news is everything you need to heal is already inside of, and around you.
The other piece of good news is it’s not about adding anything, but rather, pivoting away from that which depletes you of your energy, and toward that which augments it.
With that in mind, here’s my top five “quick fix picks” for those of you who are feeling exhausted from the ravages of the modern human landscape.
1. Take time to ground your body in the real world, either through walks in nature, gardening, or my new favourite: jumping into a body of water such as a river, lake or ocean. Your body is a battery, and it needs recharging.
2. Drink clean, clear water, from as close to the source as possible.
3. Eat herbicide-free whole foods, and grass-fed free-range meat.
4. Get plenty of rejuvenating sleep.
5. Stop reading the news: not only is the sheer onslaught of information exhausting, but the fear content hijacks the executive functions of the brain and re-orients you into the fear-based reptilian part. This is the same mechanism that creates what is commonly referred to as PTSD, and is responsible for creating the pandemic of anxiety and depression that has exploded since 2020.
But the best part by far of reclaiming your energy is that it takes you out of someone else’s story and puts you squarely back into yours.
