Of all the phases that one must go through on a healing journey, forgiveness is the most difficult as well as the one most fraught with misconceptions. To forgive is to “give away” the past, to cease allowing painful events to stay alive in the present. Another way of putting this is that you no longer “breathe” life into past events, thus cutting off their energy supply. That which we focus on comes alive; such is the power of our consciousness. When I chose to forgive the past, what I was really choosing was to free myself from the hold that the past had on me, and instead align my energy in the present moment where I could go about the business of creating my dream life. Forgiveness is not the road to forgetfulness, but rather, the highway to freedom.
