When I was moving through my journey of addiction and depression, I quickly realized that my culture could not provide me with a template for healing. I knew that in order to do this, I would have to think outside the tribe, and create my own.
Tribal beliefs are those beliefs that members of a society are energetically connected to, and which bind them to the tribe. Childhood programming is none other than the transmission of the tribal code onto each new member of the tribe. In an ideal world, there would be no problem with this model. But when a given society is dysfunctional, or the childhood environment is filled with stress, the resulting programming will not support the healthy growth of the individual.
We need to ask ourselves if our current programming is working for us, or against us. If we decide it is the latter, we need to raise our level of consciousness to the point where our energy begins to be directed from the inside out, not the other way around. In this way, we begin to unplug from the tribe, and instead of operating on the default setting of our culture we take command of our own energetic system.
For me, depression was a sign that I had so much energy invested in my past that I barely had any left for living my present life. Giving authority to events from the past directed my energy there, and I literally got “stuck”. Continuously blaming past events for present situations fosters a sense of victim-hood, which is the exact opposite of the state we need to be in in order to move on and heal. Forgiveness was the key piece in me freeing myself from the pain of my past and aligning myself with the present moment.
Personal empowerment is the key to freedom. Stand as a sentry at the gateway to your thoughts. Figure out what makes you feel more powerful, and do that. Each moment of every day you are investing your life force. Choose wisely!
